How to Turn the Captions on in Your Windows Media Player

Windows Media player, Versions 10 & 11
To turn on the captions in Windows Media Player, versions 10 & 11 please follow these three steps.

1. Open your Windows Media Player and look for the menu bar across the top. If the menu bar is not visible, right click on the Windows logo in the upper left corner of Media Player and the menu bar will appear.

2. Click on PLAY, then CAPTIONS & SUBTITLE and then ON IF AVAILABLE. (See below screenshot)

3. Go back up to the menu bar and click on TOOLS, then click OPTIONS. (see screenshot below)

The OPTIONS window will open with a number of tabs across the top. Click on SECURITY and finally click in the box next to SHOW LOCAL CAPTIONS WHEN PRESENT. (See screenshot below)

You have done it and captions will now be visible.

Windows Media Player, Version 9
To turn on the captions in Windows Media Player, version 9, please follow these three steps. The process is almost the same as for Windows Media Player Versions 10 & 11, with the exception of the Security stem which is not required for Version 9.

1. From the menu bar across the top of your Windows Media Player, click on PLAY.
2. Then click on CAPTIONS & SUBTITLES menu.

3. For the final step, click, ON IF AVAILABLE.
