POST PRODUCTION CAPTIONING

Post-Production Captioning, also known as “off-line” incorporates captions into prerecorded programming. You provide us with a copy of your program master tape, we produce the captions and add them to a copy of your master tape. This new Caption master can be used for broadcast or VHS duplication. We can provide you with either open captions or closed captions. If your master is in DV format, we can complete the captioning in 100% digital environment. Your new captioned master will have no generation loss.

Open captions look identical to closed captions, but are “burned” onto the video and are always visible to the viewer. The can not be hidden by pressing the “CC” button on your TV set. Open captions are perfect for use on a non-CC equipped monitor or in a public display. Open captions are often used for non-broadcast educational programming presented in the classroom. Closed Captions are “encoded” into the tape and require a caption decoder in order to be viewed. Every late model television set includes a decoder. If you are unsure what you may have just contact us and we can help.

We offer both roll-up and pop-on captions. Our roll-up captions feature 2 to 4 lines of text that “roll up” on to the screen one line at a time. As each new line rolls up, the top line disappears. Don’t confuse our quality captions with what you may see on local TV news. Our pop-on captions are the highest quality form of captions available.

All of our captions are carefully edited and synchronized with the video creating a seamless presentation. Our captions are usually on the lower third of the TV screen, but can be moved in order to not obscure on-screen speaker identification “CG.” Our captions comply with all FCC & ADA requirements.

Transcription:
If you have a complete transcript of your production in WORD or standard text format we are often able to utilize your transcript (after some editing) and reduce the total cost of your Caption project.

Of course we can also prepare the transcript for your project. If you are not an experienced video transcriber, trying this job at home is not something you want to do. A one hour program can take a good typist FOUR hours to transcribe. Most of our transcribers have over ten years of experience. We provide a proof copy prior to the actual encoding session.

Tape Formats:
We can work with almost any professional video tape format. In-house we have the following formats.

Digital Betacam, Betacam SP, DVCAM (all sizes) , Mini-DV
3/4" SP, S-VHS. Most of the older home Sony Beta formats.

Our new gigital DV captioning produces captions in a 100% digital environment. Your captioned master will till be first generation.

We can produce a special file that will enable you to add our captions directly to the time-line of your NLE. Imagine... No generation loss. And you don't even have to send us a tape! With this revolutionary new method of captioning we support most AVID systems, Velocity, Media 100, Sony Xpri, Adobe Premier Pro & Descreet.

We can bring in temporary decks to handle any other format you may have. Or we can use the decks in your facility.

Spanish Is Our Second Language
We have Spanish speaking transcription and video staff members. We can translate to and from Spanish, producing transcripts and closed caption content.
